VFN Foundation is a 501(c) (3) charitable organization with a mission to provide information and referral services, educational support and mental health linkages to military service members, Veterans and their families. The Foundation provides special emphasis to families of service members who have been disabled or killed while serving this great nation.
Information and Referral Services: VFN works closely with 211 and Military One Source to provide information and referral services. In addition, on a case by case basis VFN will provide unmet needs support.
Silver Star Education for Children: VFN Foundation provides post-secondary educational scholarships to the children of service members disabled or killed as a result of their military service to our great nation. Our unique scholarships can be applied to schooling now or held by VFN Foundation on behalf of young children until needed at the time of enrollment.
Mental Health Linkage: VFN works with mental health and substance abuse organizations to provide linkage to veterans and their families to address issues like PTSD, TBI Awareness, suicide prevention, depression and combat sress management.

Major Ed Pulido, U.S. Army (Ret.) is the spokesperson of the VFN Foundation. Ed Pulido, while serving in the U.S. Army, received his Degree in Military Science, Marketing, and Criminal Justice Administration and has a Masters Degree in Logistics Management/Human Relations. He attained the Rank of Major in his 19‐year military career and on May 16, 2005, he was medically retired from the United States Army from injuries sustained in combat.
On the 17th of August, 2004, Major Pulido hit an Improvised Explosive Device (I.E.D) or roadside bomb while serving with the Coalition Military Assistance Training Team under the command of General David Petraeus. Due to the extensive injuries to his left knee, doctors had to amputate his left leg on October 1, 2004. For his heroism and valor on that August day, the President of the United States along with General David Petraeus awarded him the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, and Joint Service Achievement Medal.
Major Pulido's story of courage and sacrifice has been featured in Time Magazine, PGA Magazine, Fox News, CNN and many national and local Oklahoma City television stations and newspapers. Since, his amputation, Major Pulido has been a staunch advocate for veterans with disabilities, specifically focusing on advocacy on prosthetic technologies with Ortho Care Innovations, peer visiting with fellow amputees at Brooke and Walter Reed Medical Centers, and developing programming to meet the needs of veterans with mental health disabilities.
He has received countless awards including the prestigious Disabled American Veteran of the Year Award, the Hero's award from the American Red Cross, the Reaching Our City Award, OKC Thunder and Devon Energy Community Hero Award, the Daughters of the American Revolution Outstanding Veteran Patient Award; the prestigious Tuskahoma Brown Miller Award for outstanding leadership and has received a special commendation from Senator James Inhofe for his work on prosthetic technology with Ortho Care Innovations.
Ed Pulido has been married to Karen Pulido for 18 years. He has an 8 year old daughter Kaitlin Pulido and a 4 year old daughter Kinsley Pulido both Vets 4 Vets Foundation Silver Star scholarship recipients. He and his family reside in Edmond, Oklahoma. |
